Who we are

Founded in 2012, the Autism Parents Association International APAI, is a not-for-profit, Non-Governmental Organisation based in Lagos, Nigeria set up by concerned parents to advocate for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and to provide information and other relevant support to their families and caregivers.

From PAAi to APAi

At inception, we were known by the name, Parents Against Autism Initiative, PAAI. However, after our first major outing and membership drive on April 26, 2014, we received feedback that our name seemed to be against the very people we are supposed to represent. We had to go through a protracted process of changing our name to the present one, Autism Parents Association International, APAI. Our objectives remain the same and we are set to fulfil them to the best of our ability.

Our Vision

To participate in building a nation that accepts, supports and provides for the well-being of people with autism and their families.

The Future

Based on outcomes from our awareness campaigns, APAI proposes, in the future, to establish a one-stop resource centre for families, therapists and caregivers of persons with autism.

Our goals

  • To speak up for the autism community in Nigeria
  • To spread and reinforce the message of hope to family members and caregivers
  • To create awareness on autism through our activities
  • To support indigent poor families living with the challenges of autism
  • To provide a pivot where families, therapists and caregivers of people with autism can resort and source information and other relevant support
  • To explore, generate and promote indigenous knowledge and contribute to the global search for the cause and cure of autism

Autism Parents Association International, APAI, invites all interested parents who share our cause to join hands with us in the quest to keep the light burning IN the tunnel.
